Ceire was born on May 12th and I am the happiest person in the world. I am still tripping out on it trying to make sense of everything. It's pretty unreal. I plan on making this webpage nice and pretty when I have a little more time which I never do.
Name Breakdown
Ceire
Pronounced (KEY-rah) is the traditional Irish spelling of Keira or Ciara.
It means dark haired, saint or servant of the saints.
Leihiwa
Pronounced (lay-HE-va) is Hawaiian. The best English connotation is precious child or sacred child.
Stats
She was 8 lbs, 1.3 ounces at birth and 20.5 inches long.
Labor was about 33 hours total. 15 hours worth at home starting at 4:30am. Contractions were off and on throughout the day. Hospital was an hour drive so when the contractions were close enough together we went. We spent the remaining 18 hours at the hospital and stayed overnight. Charity opted for the epidural shortly after we got there. She wanted to see how long she could go without it, but I'm glad she went with it in the end. Active pushing was about 3 hours worth.
I have a new found appreciation for motherhood and a new found appreciation for being a man. It was pretty extreme and it still blows my mind to think about the birth. I did pretty good keeping it together... until the last 5 minutes or so. Charity was in a lot of pain, the head was coming, and it all finally hit me that we were actually having a baby. Fortunately I did not faint, but it was a close one.
Ceire is very healthy and has a great set of lungs. As you can see she has a full head of jet black hair. Longer than mine actually. She is very feisty and will let you know what she thinks of certain issues like being moved or changed. This is how you know she is Charity's offspring.
She is lanky with long kangaroo feet and monkey toes. This is how you know she is my offspring. No socks will fit her. Ones that are supposedly newborn size are too short and slip off. Socks that are long enough, are intended for slightly older babies, are too wide and slip off.
