Several
months ago a friend and I embarked on a business venture. The idea was to
sell tickets and reservations for luaus in Hawaii. A luau is a Hawaiian feast.
We knew that many people come to Hawaii to enjoy luaus because we had previously
worked in the industry of selling general vacation activities around Hawaii
including things like swimming with dolphins and helicopter tours. And hey,
who wouldn't want to go to a luau when they visit Hawaii. What better way
to experience the culture of the islands!
The name of the company is Honu Hawaii Activities. "Honu" means "turtle" in Hawaiian. We recently went live with the site and we take bookings for 19 luaus across four major islands.
Oahu
We have six luaus on Oahu which are: Paradise
Cove Luau, Germaine's
Luau, Princess Kaiulani Luau in Waikiki, the Royal Hawaiian Luau also
in Waikiki, Sea life Park also has a luau which is pretty cool because they
also have a dolphin show with it and you get to check out other marine animals
like stingrays, seals, sea lions, sharks and penguins. And also the Polynesian
Cultural Center in Laie which includes the Alii
luau, the Ambassador Luau, which is similar to the Alii luau, and the
grand package Super Ambassador luau.
Maui
On Maui we sell six luaus. most of them are in Wailea of Lahaina. The Beach
Marriott Wailea Luau,
Drums of the Pacific Luau, Hyatt Regency, Maui, Kaanapali Sunset Luau,
Maui Sunset Luau, Royal
Lahaina Luau and Wailea Sunset Luau.
Kauai
On Kauai we offer bookings and reservations for the Hiva
Pasefika Luau, Smith's
Kauai Garden Luau, and the Princeville Resort Luau.
The Big Island
On the Big Island of Hawaii we book Gathering
of Kings in Kailua-Kona, Island
Breeze Luau, Royal
Kona Resort Luau and Waikoloa Beach Marriott Luau.
Most luaus follow a similar format. Some will greet you with a flower lei and serenade you with music. Some will hold Hawaiian cultural presentations, activities or Hawaiian games before the feast. During the feast is the show. They try to get a sampling of various Polynesian cultures and dances to entertain you such as Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tahitian dancers, New Zealand (Maori), and of course Hawaii. At certain times you may have the opportunity to get on stage and learn the hula or some Tahitian dance.
Oh and who can forget the Samoan Fire Knife Dance! No good luau is complete without a fire-knife dance also known as the Nifo Oti or Siva Afi. It's amazing to watch these guys twirl flaming blades around their heads and psychotic speeds. How can that NOT be cool?!
